i suck!

So in the last month I have been to Kauai to visit my sister and nephews and Las Vegas for spring break! I promise a real update with actual pictures soon, but for now here's a small teaser:

So Natalie tagged me forever ago, but I keep forgetting! Sorry Natalie, it will happen soon I promise!

So, about a month ago, I started a Phlebotomy class at a local technical school (so classy, I know! But hey, it was cheap!) For those of you who don't know what Phlebotomy is,  it's basically collecting  blood for testing. I was very worried at first because it was something I had never ever done before. But hey, you gotta start somewhere.

My ultimate goal is to become a Sports Medicine Doctor and work for the Kansas City Chiefs (don't make fun of my team, ok?!) Anywho, in order to do that and make good money at it, I need to go to medical school and do a residency. I figured why not start here!!

So every wednesday when I go to class we have a lecture for the first hour or so, and then we practice...on each other. it just sounds like a heap of fun right? it's not that bad. unless you get the one boy in our class who is creepy and can't hit veins...anybody's veins. I've somehow managed to avoid getting him, but i'm sure my luck will probably run out soon.

I've always been the weird one in my family who isn't bothered at all by needles. I love to donate blood, and even race with friends. My record in filling the bag is 4 minutes and 39 seconds. I also seem to weird out the red cross lady everytime I donate, because I like to watch the needle go in. Crazy and weird? Possibly.

Tonight at class though, I was very very proud of myself. I attempted 8 venipunctures on my lovely assistant Nicole, one in each hand, and 3 on each arm. and I drew blood from all 8! I was so proud for hitting the vein everytime! and this is only my 3rd week drawing blood. Don't think i'm torturing her though! She attempted 8 veni's on me too, but she missed both veins in my hands. Basically, I come home every wednesday night feeling like a human pincusion. Lucky for me, we didn't do finger pricks tonight. We usually have to have 4 fingerpricks every week, and I HATE those. Give me a shot, put a big needle in my arm, but don't prick my fingers. To me it hurts like hell.

So this was a pretty pointless post, but I felt like sharing something awesome! Kind of a fun, and slightly odd personal achievement for me.

ok ok, i'm a slacker!

So my first resolution hasn't been kept, but I have been killing all the other ones. I've been going to the gym every night for the last 2 weeks, except Sat. and Sun. of course. I had Dr Pepper today for the first time in forever!
Anyway, I have a question for the whole 2 people who read this... Is it terrible to skip church to go to the sports bar to watch your favorite NFL team (Chiefs) play your least favorite NFL team (Raiders)? Am I going straight to hell or what?! I went decked out in my Chiefs jersey and baseball cap, I got a huge burger and a huge glass of Dr. Pepper, and I soaked up the football awesomeness. I kinda feel guilty cuz I had lots of fun and I'm considering skipping every week during football season. What can I say, I LOVE FOOTBALL!

yeah, sorry about that...

So, I suck at posting. We established this long long ago. So, turning over a new leaf, I present to you.....drum roll please.......My New Years resolutions in August!

Come on guys, everyone does it January 1st! And I think you'll all agree that hardly no one sticks with them!

So without further adieu, here they are in no specific order:

1. Post at least once a week on Xanga. Translation: Spend almost as much time on Xanga as I do Facebook. I feel that reading most of the featured content on this site is probably a better use of time than Facebook stalking. Plus I feel like I have some interesting and different things to say.

2. Quit watching as much tv. I mean obviously this one starts after the Olympics are over. Obviously! It will be like my last party, to cheer on and support those awesome athletes until I have no voice and am blue in the face!

3. Read more books. I used to never ever watch TV, I just read all day every day. Then CSI came along several years ago and ruined my life. Now it's How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory. None the less, books are back in, tv is out.

4. Eat breakfast every day. Well other than Dr. Pepper, pop-tarts and cookies from Nestle Tollhouse. No joke, that's been going on for a few months now. It's time for me, Suzanne Sperry, to be an adult and eat a real breakfast. I'm thinking Total Bran Flakes, I loved those as a kid, and so it begins again! I am cursed with not being able to go to bed til after 1 am usually, so getting up at 6:30 for work is very hard for me. I swear I am nocturnal. It's easy for me to just grab whatever is easiest, usually poptarts or mini muffins. NO MORE!

5. Work out! A little fun fact that some of you may not know about me...I was a ballerina for 10 years. Competitive Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Pointe that I spent many many hours a week practicing. For years, I did something that I enjoyed immensely and gave me a super radly toned body. Unfortunately that body exists no more. Let's get something straight, I am by no means unhappy with how I look. I'm still very scrawny (thank you Sperry metabolism!) But when I am winded running up the 5 steps to my apartment, compared to doing really hard 3 minute dance routines that barely caused me to be out of breath, things need to change.

5. To better manage my money. Working in retail, I have a hard time keeping a handle on my money. Not just clothing, I've been eating out way way too much (Curse you Costa Vida and your amazing burritos!) I make more than enough money to cover bills and could even save more than a hundred dollars from each paycheck. But somehow, I never seem to have any money. That's about to change as well.

So, it was kind of ranty, but I feel good about it. I've been wanting to do some of this stuff for awhile, so now is the time!

Words of encouragement are welcome!

grrrrr!

So I think my teeth are trying to kill me! augh! I have 3 wisdom teeth that have grown in, and one that is trying with all it's might, but there is just no room for it. I have such a small mouth that there was no room for all my teeth BEFORE the wisdom teeth started growing, so now is hell! The last fews days the gums have been swollen and I've been reduced to eating dippin dots and pudding. yay for starvation! I'm going to call tomorrow and try and get an appointment to get them taken out. Yet another problem...I don't have insurance! woot! So my dad, being the awesome daddy that he is, told me to do what needed to be done and he would worry about the cost. I love him! so cross your fingers that I get a good deal! In the meantime I'm fully taking advantage of the excuse to eat all the dippin dot's I want and lying on my bed watching Grey's Anatomy and Friends. I'm trying to stay positive while pill popping Aleve.
ooohhh and now for the good news...I get to go home for a week! My rooommates coworker is from KC, so she totally invited me to go back with her and her little brother, it should be fun! I'll be home from the 20th to the 27th of July! excitement!
